Is car allowance taxable?

I.E. if my employer gives me a monthly car allowance, is this taxable in Ontario or will I get the full amount from my employer? If yes, is there a way to structure it so that I can keep the governments hands off my money?

it is 100% deductble for the empoyer, AND it calculates as income for you...

Hrm...maybe I should ask for more then :P Anyone know any loopholes I can exploit?

It's a taxable benefit, yes. Same if they give you a car, or pay for your rent.

you are not the First one!, the only thing you can do is, deduct certain % for work use, But

for that you will need letter from employer.

If the amount is reasonable, you can track your car expenses and deduct them.

Your employer has to sign a T-2200 (I think) stipulating that you must use your own car in your job.
