Default Is it true that news groups are not free, at least not if you want "good" content?

It seems like a more complex way of sending large files.

Default The service itself is not free

It'll be a while before newsgroups will disappear, in fact I don't think it will ever go away. All they can do is target the source of where the stuff is coming from - uploaders.

Default the technology required to shut off newsgroup access for consumers is a lot simpler than

Default Except newsgroups are global

Shut one service down, people will go elsewhere outside of the US for example.

Are you running Vista? Could it just be UAC warnings?

Default I use to use news groups a long time ago but the service providers stopped allowing the alt.bin grou

I'll have a look at this again, it's been a while.
What news client do you recommend for binary files, certainly not outlook express?

Default Service providers got out of this business a long time ago

It was chewing up their bandwidth. Rogers was one of them, fantastic download speeds, mediocre retention. Go with giganews or something. I used to use Agent reader but switched over to Newsbin, fairly easy to use but too me a while to get used to it.
