Default Just back from Calgary/Canmore/Banff/Lake Louise...

Had a great time skiing, soaking in the hot springs, skating on Lake Louise, etc. The nature stuff was great, even in -21C weather.

Car stuff:

GM deserves to be out of business. We rented a Chevy Impala (in brown), which deserves no ink other than my wife quickly nicknamed it the "turdsicle".

Driving in Alberta, and Calgary specifically, is a joke. The city appears blanketed by photoradar, artificially-slow speed limits of course, and everyone creeps along terrified of being caught of Big Mother. Glad to be back in Ontario and our impound-happy laws, imagine that.

Saw very few Audis, interestingly. But many, many SUVs, mainly in the ditch:

This was on the icefields parkway:

This was just inside the gates of the Banff National Park:

There were a few more I didn't snap a pic of, there were just stuck in snowbanks after sliding on ice.

The FWD Impala, to its credit, did just fine on its all-seasons in snow and on sheer ice.

HWY 93:

Default It was covered in sheer ice for the first 100km, but still a lot of fun.

Absolutely everything on this road is closed at this time of year, so it was a bit of an adventure with a rental, crappy tires, no cell signal and no survival gear...

Default Had the pleasure of driving to Kananaskis, Canmore and Banff...

...earlier in the year - January - for a day only...a business trip to Calgary.
Absolutely amazing scenery...mountains and roads covered in very deep snow...everything looked majestic.

Rented a Ford Fusion from Budget in Calgary...was amazed as to how well it went on ice, and snow covered roads, till I pulled over and noticed it was an AWD!

Highway 40 a bit south of Kananaskis was closed - they don't usually plow it - so I turned back north along Spray Lakes Road to Canmore. Awesome scenery, just awesome...Banff is a typical tourist trap, I thought.

Didn't notice one photo radar!!!

Default I'm heading to Canmore today . . .

ahhhh . . . can't wait. Get some skiing in over New Year's. Yeah, the SUV-ditch relationship is an intimate one that we frequently see!!!

Default the west is best...

as for the ticket issues... radar detectors are legal in both Alberta and BC.
