Price & Performance = A3
I too am stuck in this quandry... good thing I have quattro! With the pricing now released, the A3 3.2 with DSG does win on two fronts: a bit cheaper than the A4 2.0 AND way faster. Check the HP and the weight and you'll see why. My sticking point is this: with the A4 Avant, I get more space and I could chip the 2.0T to get more power. So, in the end, why not get a used 2004 A4 with the 3.0 engine? Best of both worlds at lower cost. Cheers.

I was looking at an A3
But after seeing the trunk space, the A4 clearly wins, even in the sedan form. Yes you could put the seats down in the A3 to get more room but I rather avoid doing that. Glad I went the A4 route, avant would have been nicer but I was impatient to wait (and now saving a few extra bucks with the sedan instead)
Performance-wise, the A3 2.0T FWD is pretty quick already, chip it and it's even faster. Just too bad that Audi didn't bring over the 2.0T quattro six speed and only the more expensive 3.2L quattro DSG. But then you could just chip a A4 2.0TQ! It's all about gobs of torque!!

Re:The A3 is more Golf than Audi, like the TT, why pay
so much for essentially a tarted up Golf?
That's the main problem with the TT, you might as well get the Golf RS32 and save money while getting some carrying capacity and cabin space. Not to mention the TT is pretty ugly....
The A3 misses the mark by quite a bit I think, and costs way too much money.
