Wanted Audi

I am looking for an Audi 2.8 quattro 5spd. 1999 -2001 MY. I live in the Quinte area about an hour from Kingston. Anyone have any advice, when do the new model years come out Aug?

Random Advice

The 1999.5 models and up have trip computer, clear side markers and one piece headlights. 2000 and up have drive by wire (DBW) which some people don't like as much. 2000 had xenons as on option (worth a extra IMO). 2001 for the 1.8T have 170 HP versus 150 HP (more below).

I bought my 2000 six months ago as a 3-yr lease back. Right now most of the 3-yr lease back would be 2001 models.

Many people recommended getting the Audi preffered warranty from the dealer because of the expense of fixing the cars - though you obviously pay more than with a private sale. The audicanada.ca site shows available used vehicles across Canada, searchable by area.

When I was searching canadatrader.com for months I noticed 90% or more of the cars in Ontario are sold from used car dealerships ... not sure if that is good or bad. Being where you are you have easy access to the Ontario and Quebec cars which is where the biggest market for used Audi's is.

Posting here is a good way to start since you may get someone who is trying to sell theres.

On the 2.8 versus 1.8T - you can do a search, but many people prefer the 1.8T with the 5 speed because it is a fun high revving engine and for less than $1000 you can increase the HP and torque higher than 2.8 with a chip.

Quattro is another must - otherwise there are many other cars to choose from. In winter it almost makes you want to go out and drive when its snowing.

Sport package is nice, it handles better and looks quite a bit better. It is about 1" lower and comes with 16" versus 15" wheels/tires (at least in 1999 and 2000). If you're into upgrades than many would say forget the sport package and just install an aftermarked suspension.

A start anyway - good luck

Re: Random Advice

Thanks for the info, I have talked with my mechanic and for stock purposes he prefers the 2.8. There are quite a few of used dealers around this area and Toronto. I think some of the used dealers ads stated an Audi warranty with it. I also guess how much I can get for a trade on my vehicle as well. What are the Audis like for milage I plan on keeping it for a while and was told the 2.8 will last longer due to no turbo. I am not going to rush into it and buy the first one, this has been a good source of info as well. Thnaks
