the old girl or cut my lose, try to sell it and look for something newer. Opinions welcome. Thx

stage 3.

how much to fix?

I'd keep it. You're invested into the car already, let it pay for itself.

Bruno_S4 03-12-2009 09:44 AM

Sounds like a minimum $3k job just to get it back to the way it was. That's a tough pill to swallow

on a an older car with 200,000kms on it....

cut it loose

Buy my Stage 3 S4.....

Seriously though, I'd say consider fixing if you can keep the car a while longer. Otherwise unload as a fixer upper in great shape. Guess you just need to see if the hit you take on resale is less/greater than the repair cost. Fresh turbos will increase your resale also.

Or Mine! Its cheaper then ^^ ha ha.. threadjack!

JetTech 2.7T 03-12-2009 06:20 PM

Ageed, Bruno. New turbos looking at $2K plus labour equals min $3K or one goes with...

used turbos and sell the car. If the car had less km on it, I wouldn't hesitate to dump the money into it but at 198,000km how much more money will I have to throw at it in the future and when does one say enough is enough!!

Ryan in T.O. 03-12-2009 08:16 PM

Tough call. If you try to sell it 'as is', you'll likely take more of a hit because it has to

be fixed. The buyer will likely overestimate the repair cost and offer you less than the car is worth.

Unless you're thinking about K04s, I'd try and find the cheapest, used K03 I could from one of the US guys that has done the swap. Yes the turbos should be replaced in pairs and yes used turbos are risky but I'm assuming you just want to get the car running again. I've seen the used turbos going for ~$200, sometimes free, so you'll be on the hook for labour and hopefully little else.

JetTech 2.7T 03-13-2009 06:54 AM

I'm not in the market for the K04 but I have no problems with the cost in labour. If I was looking..

for a car I would want to purchase a vehicle that would not require a big maintenance repair to it.
I'm considering now to get a set of used turbos, get the car road worthy again and then in the future try to sell and maybe recoup some of back in the sale of the vehicle.
At 198,000km what is a fair asking price??
