From Palwaukee flying overhead here all this weekend....the sound is just wonderful!!
Three WWII warbirds.
B-25 Mitchell... B-17 Flying Fortress (painted very much like this one)... B-24 Liberator. Some special meaning as my next-door neighbor at our summer place was a tail gunner on one of these flying from North Africa to bomb Eastern Europe, and survived bailing out of a damaged plane over Greece. He passed away last year, a good and quiet here. (Actually, theL is the one of the three I have yet to see fly over. Gonna go wash the car in case it does.) |
B-24, as you know. We had a 17, and a Mustang here years ago, and the Mustang actually
flew formation with, IIRC, a 16. That was cool.
|
Saw the B-17 on the way to dinner last night in Evanston.
Wonderful sight. Image hundreds of those in formation on their way to the target.

(Edited, thanks.)

Going to or from Oshkosh for sure - so cool to see that big iron still flying.
|
couldn't tell if it was a B-24 or 25 but I saw one out in Wauconda late last week.
