Downloading software on to navigation units that gives the location of known radars is illegal here!

Radar warners have always been illegal here in Germany but the ADAC warns in its latest members magazine that the recently available software which give the location of known fixed cameras are also covered by the legislation which outlaws "the carrying of equipment which warns of the location of police controls". The penalty is minimum EUR 75 fine, 4 points and confiscation of the equipment.

Strangely the police actively support radio stations who report the position of mobile speed traps, the majority of which cannot be detected by radar or laser detectors as they work using light beams across the road!

That's rediculous. How can being warned about accident hotspots be bad?

Or do they admit they their cameras are there purely for revenue generation and that they are not in fact "Safety Cameras".

Cameras in Germany are not necessarily at accident hot spots! They are used to try and enforce

speed limits generally.

Another fact is that especially on the Autobahn the Police use unmarked cars, if you exceed the speed limit and slow down when passing a known speed check area the fine is increased as it is taken that you are deliberatly speeding!

Speed controls with unmarked cars are genrally carried out in two ways.
1) Video with calibrated speedos where they follow over a measured strech.
2) Radar/Laser from vehicles parked at the side road.

The latest addition is radar which is computer controlled so that it works from a moving vehicle. This means that it works when you pass a car moving at a slower speed in an adjacent lane.

They are falling out of favour in the UK. Some are even being removed.

Ours are all supposedly at accident blackspots and their locations are all published....and in my SatNav ;-)

That is incredible. Very interesting to read how a different country has enforcement.

I'm living in Ireland and it is a madhouse, terrible roads, bad enforcement, very poor driving standards etc.

There is only about 10 speed camera's in Ireland at present. And the only time that one sees the cops out with their radar/laser guns is when the weather is dry. And naturally they only do speed checks on Motorways/straight sections of roads. Never at accident hot spots.

Re: Downloading software on to navigation units

is it possible to d/l this info to a '01 S6 Navi+ system, or does this not apply to OEM Nav units, but after market units?
