So why does the BBC Worldservice use the American Billion instead of the correct thousand million?
According to my dictionary:
Billion = one million million or 10 to the power of 12 in German also Billion Trillion = one million million million or 10 to the power of 18 in German also Trillion But the BBC Worldservice, which should be the defender and teacher of all things British, uses the devalued American billion when reporting company results etc. As a staunch European I am appalled by this. |
What do you call an "American Billion" then?
|
Thousand million!
|
Seems a bit awkward to one not used to it, but on a positive note...
it does away with the world's Billionaires.
Koz. |
Billion is way more understantable to me.
|
Thats a lot of limp wristed twadle...
|
in Norwegian and probably many other germanic languages that is a "milliard"
|
Americans can't count that high.
