Audi Q5 Power Tailgate

2018 Q5, having trouble locating the sensor to activate the power tailgate lift by waving my foot under the rear bumper. Is there some trick to figuring out the best trigger spot? ...how far under the bumper do you have to reach? I am averaging about a 10% success rate on trying to get the tailgate up using my leg/foot motion. Any ideas?

Make sure you keys are in your pocket
in middle of hatch, kick foot forward then straight back
make it delberate
works just about every time 98 out of 100. ;-)
