I just traded in my 2017 G63 and picked up this CPO '22 A6 Allroad. I've put ~600 miles on it right away road tripping and love it. I've always had a soft spot for wagons and I don't need to tow anymore, very happy with the A6 more-so after test driving a 2025 E450 AT, V60 PE and V90 CC.
Out the gate my plans are:
  • Wheels and tires (want to go 19", maybe a cross climate to run year round)
  • Crossbars for a ski roofbox and kayaks
  • Tint
  • Tune as soon as someone figures out the TCU

It was easier than I thought it would be. Main thing is to get the wiring above the coil packs loose... Just finished changing spark plugs on my 2021 A6 Allroad C8 and wanted to share my experience.
It was easier than I thought it would be. Main thing is to get the wiring above the coil packs loose enough to wiggle out them out. The rest is a breeze.

I did not replace the coil packs. But I did squeeze a dab of dielectric grease in each when reinstalling.

These two videos helped a lot. Both are for an S4 B9 but everything is exactly the same.


Here are a few still pics I took. The videos go a little fast and hard to pause so you can see what they're doing.

take off the engine cover. gently pull straight up on each of the four corners one at a time, this pic shows that each corner has a grommet (little chess pawn looking nub).

right side: youll need to disconnect the hose im touching here.

right side: this is the far end of the hose. just squeeze on the top and bottom (parts with ridges) and pull out.

right side: this is the near end of that hose and harder to get off than the other end, but same concept for removal. then you can just swing the hose assembly counter clockwise to keep it out of the way.

right side: the back is held by two metal prongs. there is a tab to release the bottom prong.

right side: i dont think this was absolutely necessary, but you can get some play in the ECS module by removing three screws (1 of 3)

left side: all you have to remove is this hose, which is held by two screw clamps

left side: for the wiring harness, pull gently away from the coil packs. it's held in place by two grommets.

(my wife has a 2019 A5 so I was familiar with the Sportback).
At the time I preferred to get an A6 Alrroad but couldn't find a good deal.Of course, what I really yearn for is an RS6 Avant. But even a used one is a little too pricey for me.
I have been somewhat disappointed in the S5 and its 8 speed auto.Much prefer the 7 speed dual clutch in my wife's A5. I have no idea why Audi put the Dual clutch in the A6 with the V6 but not the S5 with the V6.
Well, I am rambling. I am considering selling the S5 and getting a used A6 Allroad but am concerned that the larger A6 would suffer performance wise. Would a mild tune make me happier? Though not as happy as the RS6 Avant! Don't want to get a tune on the 2024 as it would void the warranty from what I read.
