Idea about fixing the spam problem for the future
sorry if its already been mentioned, but assuming he took our email addresses using some form of robot, can we make it so email addresses are only visiable to registered members? I know it will take forever to filter into the search engines that way and such, but I figured it might be a good idea.

Script-based profile pages with the address on them would have prevented this.
I'm sure one <i>could</i> still harvest from those, if intent on it. But it makes it that much harder... certainly harder than having e-mail addresses on html pages. :/

I don't think the search engine will be a problem
Since we don't index the email address at all. However, if you have it in the body of the message, all bets are off 
I'll probably restrict the email address to registered users soon as a temporary measure until we can do something more.
