Trying to read old threads is impossible, since you can't tell what post is in response to what post in the thread.
So the historical database will become much more difficult to use for any threads with any amount of back and forth at all.

You can turn on global quoting - go to User CP, Edit Your Details and scoll down to turn on global quoting - makes it easier. Definitely not perfect though.
