Why didnt you guys roll it out this way?

I think if you guys made this view the default from the beginning it sure would have gone a long way towards not causing what was caused.

Believe me, we all agree. The folks at IB honestly didn't think that it would work, but with teh beating that JET and I were giving them, they tried it. It did require a lot of work behind the scenes, which apparently took a bit of time, which is why it appeared friday afternoon..

I wish I had a time machine..

you only get one chance to make a good first impression. Damn!

Jusforfun 03-22-2009 05:20 PM

Just make "thread start time" and " threaded" the default view.
PLEEEEEEEEAAASE :-)
WTF I was trying to reply to Kris. Why was that not obvious and simple?

Now the edit Police are on to me.

Ah, OK. I figured arrogance was the root cause, and you have provided the answer.

They didn't think it would work because they never actually tried it. Maybe they claimed they did, and told you they did, but when push came to shove, they scrambled and *poof*, threaded view.

I'd guess they could disable bumping if they tried *really* hard.

You tried to tell them, and they just didn't care until it hit their wallets. Plain and simple.

just a mass email to all users saying that vB would be implimented in stages would ..

have helped! imo advanced posting option needs to be put in prefs and the title space needs to be longer

4Driver4 03-23-2009 02:55 AM

There is no need to disable bumping.

You can view posts by thread start date or by last bump.

While I agree that the communication was piss poor...

...I really don't think this was planned in stages. The impression I got is that they threw it out there in vanilla form with the expectation that there might be a little tweaking required. The mass exodus to QW changed that plan and they had to get serious about catering to the old guard.

Once engaged, they seemed to relish the challenge, and both the quality of support and the communication seemed to ramp up quickly.

^this. Unfortunate but true.

I think a ton more people would have given it a chance if you started with the threaded version you have now.
