my M5 is busted

408E, 1/2 mile from the conway plaza. Traffic stopped, so did I. So did the 2 door Tahoe behind me, but the Ford cargovan behind her didn't in time. She was pushed into me. I'm not sure if my car moved at all. If it did, it was a few inches. Didn't get pushed into the guy in front of me, so I'm in the best situation here. No one was hurt, and the guy in the cargovan works for BioMedical Waste Disposal and was driving one of their vehicles. They are insured by AIG and he was ticketed for careless driving, so hopefully it will be a smooth claim process given it's a big commercial account, and a big insurance company. If I have issues, I also have a claim open with my carrier, State Farm.

It's really hard to tell, but the rear bumper carrier looks pretty good, might not even be bent.

Most of the impact was lower left side of trunk lid. The driver side rear light assemble is popped out and loose.

Looking at parts, there is a rear cross member that spans the rear of the inside of the trunk where those tail light assembled mount into and that's going to need to be replaced it looks.

I can't see much of the trunk floor, but the battery was untouched and the side fenders look fine.

If the rear fenders are fine, then, exterior wise, it needs a new trunk lid, bumper, and the section between the trunk lid at the bumper. In the 3rd picture you can see where this piece meets the rear fenders. There is no gap there, but there is an indentation. I'd imagine they'd cut at that seam and put the replacement piece in and then there'd be a gap or just bondo and smooth.

The left side rear fender is scratched on the inside from the trunk lid bending, but it's just surface and cosmetic as far as I can tell.

Trunk lid and bumper alone is $1200. Add another $500 for bumper carrier and the shock absorbers if it needs those. Tail trim for the interior of the trunk is $250'ish, and from there I'm not too sure.

Oh yea, there is styrofoam inside the bumper, that was weird to see.

ouch, at least it was minor.

You just have to deal with the headache of finding a decent body shop, dropping the car off, car pooling for 2 weeks while it is being repaired, then picking up the car, finding 45 flaws in the paint job, drop the car back off, wait 2 more weeks, pick up car again, find 13 flaws, drop car off, pick up car again, and find only 1 flaw, and so on.....

I give you 45 days from today before it is fully fixed. Sorry buddy!

I think that 90% of cars have foam in bumpers now.

I've seen it on Miatas, GMC trucks, A4 bumpers, and so on...

Sorry to hear. Should be a fairly straightforward repair though.

I have AIG insurance

I had 2 claims last year. The were very fast, professional & fair. Their adjuster had one look at my 740, knew I was anal retentive about it & allowed me enough $$$ to make sure the work was done right. If the other driver was at fault & your ins company recovers from them, they will reinburse your deductable.
