Need help from some experts in the subject please. What do you all think about cracks on turbos?
and manifolds?
Just got a K04 and spare exhaust manifold, but are cracks in the casting(s)normal to a certain degree? The reason I ask is because I bought both parts separately but show common cracks. At first I was ready to get a new manifold when I saw the crack in it but when I saw the turbo housing of relatively new turbo I just picked up with a similar crack, I'm second guessing myself.
Now (1)should I be worried and just get new parts, or (2)casting imperfections can lead to small cracks which are basically harmless. (3)Is there an easy fix?
From the pics I need you folks to help me decide, and PLEASE don't post unless you know first hand a thing or two about metallurgy and turbos etc, etc.
Also, I would like to note that the turbo does not appear to be leaking at all, previous owner assured me that it was working perfectly, the blades as a matter of fact are in great shape, I'm mostly concerned with the crack on the turbo to manifold port.

K03's and K04's are very prone to cracking on the hot side... eventually that crack can/will spread
and kill the turbo when the housing warps. It the manifold cracks, especially aftermarket ones, you really should replace it, or have the manufacturer warranty it if you bought it new.
R.
P.S. Cracking on the KKK Turbo's is common, even normal, but it's still not a good thing for longevity.
