Default 10v to 20v

I am sure this comes up all the time, so forgive me I am new, and I did search.

Basically I am wondering if a 2.3L 20V head (from say an audi 200, 90, or Coupe quattro)can be put atop a 2.3L 10V block? Is there valve interfearance? Are the EFI systems very different between the two of them?

Thank you!

I think you're asking if the 7A head will fit the NG block??? The blocks are mostly the same except for the Flywheel Position sensor hole (7A)for EFI purposes. I'm not 100% on that. I'm pretty sure the 7A motor did not come in the 200. The EFI system in the 7A setup is entirely different than the CIS-E III system found on NG code engines in the 100 90 80 (non 20V). As for valve clearance I would have to say that they are both interfearance engines due to the higher CR's, again not 100%. Whatever your trying to do is possible but you might want to stick with EFI if you can.

The 7A head will bolt to the NF/NG bottom end. HOWEVER, it will result in a low compression ratio of approximately 7.7:1, which is great for making your own 20v turbo engine. I've actually bolted one of my 7A heads to an NF bottom end for that purpose, as have several other people. AAN exhaust manifold, 3B intake manifold, 3B valve cover, 3B throttle, 3B-S2 downpipe, MC-1 K26 turbo, MC-1 wastgate. I will be running a stand-alone EFI system from 034Motorsport.

If you want more power from the NF/NG, get rid of the CIS system first. Sam on another forum is running a MegaSquirt EFI system on his NG with great sucess and considerable gains. He's also run E85 through the engine for even bigger gains...

With EFI in place, you can more easily swap an alternate engine in the car, like a 10vt or 20v/20vt, down the road.

Would the 20V non-turbo head fit onto a 10V turbo block, such as an MC2 engine from an 89 200TQ? <A HREF="http://smiliesftw.com"><IMG SRC="http://smiliesftw.com/x/fingersx.gif" border="0"></A>
