Does anyone know the procedure for removing a starter from a 87'5000cs Quattro? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Low skill required, basic hand tools, can be done in about an hour.

Tools
19mm wrench
19mm short socket (standard height non-deepwell)
3/8 ratchet
12mm short socket

Raise vehicle to desired height and support with axle stands. Remove negative battery cable under rear seat. Under vehicle at about the 9 o'clock position on the passenger side of the bell housing you will see the starter. Put the wrench on the nut at the bottom of the starter and the ratchet with the 19 on the bolt. Remove bolt and nut. Roughly 4 inches above the lower bolt is the upper bolt. Use the 19 socket and rachet to remove the bolt.

Next use the 12mm on either a 3/8 or 1/4 ratchet and remove the cables on the upper terminal of the starter. Note orientation of cables. Signal wire should be held on with a female spade connector. Remove small signal wire from starter by wiggling and pulling. Remove starter from bell housing. May take gentle bump from hammer to loosen from block.

Install is reverse of removal.

Any ??s just reply
