Car not running issues..

I know that there are a few of you on the 4000/CGT message board, but I thought I would post my question here.

I have an 85 Coupe GT that I have been working on for ages. Right now she doesn't like me and wont run. When I start it, the motor revs to 4000rpm and then quits. I have replaced all the vacuum lines (yesterday), made sure that the fuel pump is working (it is), checked the throttle plate to ensure that it opens (it does), I have replaced a cracked intake line and it just wont run. It is almost like the cold start valve is the only thing sending gas in and once the car uses all that it shuts off.

Does anyone have any ideas? Your help is appreciated.

Cheers.

Even though

the fuel pump is working, is there fuel getting to the cylinders?

Plugged fuel distributor?
Plugged fuel filter?

Guessing it's common to all cylinders, so look from the distributor backwards.

Stuck air metering plate?

Hi,
I've worked on Audis professionally for 30 years. It Is my opinion that you have a large air leak somewhere in the induction system.
There is a hose right in the middle of the intake manifold that can split (always on the bottom where you can't see it) that attaces to the idle stabilizer. I would check that first.
Does the coupe start and die every time you crank it?

I have gone through the Intake several times now and I don't see (hear) any leaks. I have made sure that the boot is securely fastened, and gone through and replaced all the vacuum lines.

This hose that you speak of, do you have a picture of where I should look. I am thinking I might need to replace the ecu on the car at the moment, and if it is just a hose that I missed, that would be sweet!

I will see if my dad (the car is at his place) can take a look for this.

and yes, every time i crank it and it catches, it dies right away.

Give details on the car engine specs first, type? turbo? 10v or 20V? Etc. However if you have a 10v turbo check maybe your oxygen sensor and your Harmonic fuel regulator. If the Ox sensor is gone this may cause the problem or some. Have you taken it to the dealers at least?
