Car won't charge battery and won't take a jump? Help Please!
I have a 1990 200 TQ...I am having a few problems. Last time I was driving to work the battery light came on then two minutes later it shut off. It started up a few minutes later but dies again. I took the alternator and battery in to be tested and they both checked out, I have no blown fuses and the wires seem to look alright on the battery. I tried to jump the car today but the horn just blarred and the engine wouldn't turn over, everything else came on but the engine wouldn't turn over. Any suggestions?

A few things to check
A large drain on the nattery ie: a short With the battery disconnected put a voltmeter on it and see what the voltage is. Connect the battery and check it again(key off then key on) If there's a large drop you've got a heavy drain/short somewhere. Key off/on will help you pinpoint where it could be. You can then start pulling fuses till the drain goes away. You can do the samee with an ammeter too, to see what's pulling power.
The key can also be a major pain when it's failing and you could be losing power to the ECU/ignition system. When you turn it, does it feel mushy? If you jiggle the key, does it get any better or worse?
Check the engine grounds. Try putting one of the jumper leads directly to the engine. You can also cheat and run one of the cables between the battery negative terminal and the engine to jumper a bad ground. Also try cleaning the terminals themselves. With the voltmeter check the voltage at the post and then at the terminal. Should be essentially the same within .1v or so.
Can't remember if the 200 is the same as the B3, but if it is, check the fused lead to the battery positive lead. Clean that connector well.
That'll keep you busy for a bit. Report back on what you find.

Re: A few things to check
I purchased a new battery last night and the car started right up, I drove it the ten mile round trip to work today and she made it alright. What does happen is the volt gage on the dash floats between 11 volts and about 14. when the car idles the charge drops but under acceleration it goes back up. What could be the problem there? Would there be a bad ground in the system?

Could be a bad ground but that wouldn't vary with RPM
Check the belt to see if it's tight and not hard and cracked. Next in line would be the voltage regulator. I assume the battery terminals are nice and clean and the cables are decent?

voltage and RPM
my coupe does that
one day i parked the car at church and when i came back nothing worked at somehow i blew a fuse, ever since then i have to ev my engine over 3k to get it to charge then it is fine until i turn on the lights and rear defroster and my voltage meter drop but i think that is normal
but still what causes the alt. to not charge right away, i have been told about a blue wire to the warning light but since my dash is messed up i dont see how that would be it
