exhaust question, need help
I have a 1993 audi S4, that I recently purchased. 5cyl, 20v, turbo. Only mod is a chip that gives it 50hp. I want to get exhaust done. How big should I go with the exhaust? I know when it comes to turbo'd vehicles bigger isn't always better. I'm curious who here has already figured out the best size to go. Also, is it a good idea to get a high flow cat, or hollow it out? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

First, congrats on your new purchase! I like the '93 best...
About the exhaust:
I started writing, realized many have already provided much more thorough write-ups than I had time for. So, I provided a great link for a general overview of exhaust systems - lots of useful information!
My opinion, is that your car was of the last to have less influence by the accountants over at Audi. The cars were built with only performance in mind. The exhaust system was very well designed, and I would bet against anything but minimal changes in performance. If you were going for big power in the future, it's a different story. If stock (+ chip..), yours currently has a sufficiently large downpipe / y-pipe, then a true dual exhaust with two cats passed that.
I would concentrate your efforts on the tone you'd like, consider removing the first muffler, leaving the last where the exhaust exits shortly after. --> Maintains a comfortable highway drive, no resonating (that you'd likely get with an entirely aftermarket system) and gives a mildly throaty rumble at idle, yet a whirl of turbo pressure under boost.
If performance is your primary motive, stare at your exhaust manifold for a while and devote your time to building a new one, or find an RS2 exhaust manifold to replace.
Also, you'll get lots more input over at the C4 S4/S6 model forums.
Again, congrats on your new purchase!<ul><li><a href="http://www.valvoline.com/carcare/articleviewer.asp?pg=pht20020501te&print=true" >http://www.valvoline.com/carcare/articleviewer.asp?pg=pht20020501te&print=true</a</li></ul>
