Default Head Swap 10v/20v

I have a question for those who know, or have done this already. If you have a naturally aspirated 10v NG motor, can you swap a naturally aspirated 20v head onto this block. If so what timing belt do you need to run, what modifications do you need to make? If this has already been posted or someone has a link, I'll be more than happy to read it myself.

Thanks

Default It "can" be done

But maybe not worth it.

The 20V head has a much larger combustion chamber so the CR would be horribly low if left NA. Too many other mods to compensatew to make it worthwhile.

Better options would be an MC swap or a 20VT swap.

Default I see you posted on the 80/90 forum

Good place to go.

Also try on AudiFans, your local Craigslist.

Might have to buy a whole car, but not actually a bad idea.

What are you actually trying to do?

Well hopefully I am picking up a 1991 80 Quattro this Friday, and I want to put a 20vt in it. I have access to purchase full EFI stand alone through my job for a good price

Haven't seen anyone on here use it, but I'm sure it would work. Just need a garage and tools.

http://www.spectreperformance.com</a

Also I was wondering, cuz I know the car that I am going to buy already has a 10v head in it. I was thinking that I could buy a 20v head and swap that on for more power temporarily until I did the swap. Kind of like an LS/Vtec for Hondas. But I didn't realize there would be a huge drop in compression, so that kind of makes it pointless.

http://www.spectreperformance.com</a

Default For Audi's (I5)

The 034 setup seems to be the most popular. They've done an awful lot of development on it. Around me quite a few people with VW's are using Megasquirt and very happy with it.

Both will offer better economy and some power gains especially (a lot of gain) with a 20VT. With an NA, not so much. They need a lot of other help to get any significant gains out of them. And for the money it's just not worth it. The 20VT is the way to go for sure.
