KX motor wont rev past 3800-4000 RPM, imput please.
I bought the car from a mechanic who was trying to solve a no start issue and installed a used fuel dist.customer couldnt pay the 500.00 bill and turned the title over and car sat for 6 months.
Either from sitting with bad gas or the install of a bad fuel dist by the mechanic, the distributor's plunger was sticking preventing start up. Installed another the third FD from a running parts car, and now starts good in any condition , even thou the cold start valve isnt getting signal from the starter wire. But the engine wont rev up past 3800-4000 RPM. It doesnt die, just starve itself.
I have performed the following;
* jumper the fuel pump relay
* Verified no vacuum leaks by spraying gratuitus volumes of cleaner and pulling the intake boot operating the metering plate by hand
* replaced the fuel pressure reg (x2)
* injected starting fluid into the intake manifold when the engine was bogging down at 4000 RPM, thus eliminating fuel starvation.
Moved on to electrical
* when checking the timing, the light was not getting a constant signal, checked the signal from the coil wire(at frank's suggestion) with the same results
* replaced; coil, distributor, hall sending unit and the ECM
* the primary ignition is all new
It is a very clean engine bay with all clean grounding points! And now has fresh gas.
Any ideas???
Thanx Michael

I guess the first thing that comes to mind is, do those use the "timint" and "reference" senders like the later MC2? If so, I'd check for a broken pin on the flywheel. This is common on the V8's and I've heard of it on occasion on the MC's as well.

Hi Tony,
As a note, we shared the tent at Carlisle, hope to see you there.
As far as I know, the KX engine (86 CGT) doesnt have any flywheel sensers
Thanx, Michael

I thought that was you. Looking forward to it. I'm planning on traveling with Mike and his Fox GTi, I'll be in Petunia. That is, unless I buy another one out there. Then, I'll fly out and drive back as I did last year.

I just went back and reread that
How did you set it up to be able to spray in the IM while it was running? My immediate question would be how did you do that without causing a massive leak which would then cause the metering plate to drop and force the engine lean?

The 2 vacuum ports on the IM 1 for the brake booster 2nd is caped off
drilled a hole bigenough to allow the red spray hose from 2+2 carb cleaner to fit in without an air leak
