Default Is there any sort of FAQ diff website, or anyone wana school me....

Im buying a 1989 80 quattro 5cyl 5 speed and wnat to do a 5cyl. turbo engine
cant decide on 10v or 20v, price will determine.
I can fabricate alot myself, and have some tuning hookups (I will be doing 034EFI stand alone)
My goal is 400-450 whp or 500ish crank.
What size/type turbo would be best, buy a manifold? or fab one up?
who are good companies for products like that?
Its going to be a slammed, caged, 5 point harnessed 2 race seats, matte black monster.
I had a 97 A41.8T for 3 years with badass suspension, Dahlback tuning and a few other goodies...I had really big plans (2871 turbo, internals, custom tune...etc) but then it got totaled. and the triumph is fun but it dosent have a roof or even much of a windshield, and is NOT a sleeper.
Any help is greatly appreciated, I know he B5 and 1.8T like the back of my hand but ima bit lost when it comes to the 5cyl.

Default 3B or AAN 20VT

RS2 it with an open exhaust and there you go.

Why matte black? Why not something a little nicer?

Default OK...So i was advised to find a 1990 or 1991 20v 90....

because they are the 7A block, essentially the same as the 3B, so its a good starting point...no? rip it out do the head over including big cams, rods and pistons, turbo manifold, 3071 turbo, 3" (or bigger) exhaust and stand alone... I will proabably get most the parts from 034 motorsports.
anyone have any other suggestions

Default Had a '91 90Q-20v if you are to do the swap as I had once hoped to do, then 3B motor would be the...

best starting point for a drop in. the AAN has a different intake mani that interferes with the radiator. The AAN also has a serpentine accesory belt that puts the A/C in the wrong place for your car. The 3B has everything for the most part in the right place for the 90Q-20v. If you are in the market for the shop manuals for the 80/90 Q and the '91 200 drop an email

it's going to be an all out "rally" car the A/C location shouldn't be an issue. And, you can use an ABY intake to get around the intake issue.

In any event that's what I've done with mine. Although mine is actually a 3B/AAN hybrid.

A turbo 7A is another way to go. If you have access to the right bits, then that's as good as any other option. A friend of mine did it that way and without the turbo restrictor he was pushing around 450. I'm at around 380 and that's fine for me because I want to keep it very reliable for what I'm doing with it. And any more HP would make it too much on dirt. I'd end up with it in a tree for sure. Oh and if you have any thoughts of really rallying it, keep the HP down a bit. A lot of HP is nice but too much is just asking for trouble. You have to cross the finish line to compete.

Default I went with a 3B also, for the most part, it was like it was meant to be in .....

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/51125/engine_bay_done_blanked_plate.jpg"></center><p>there.

3B is a good engine and the 91 200tq's are can be had for pretty cheap.

Good luck!

Default why is it that people spend more time finding a 3b instead of using the 7A bottom...

end and just updating the pistons, exhaust manifold, add the turbo and some 034 custom wiring?
It seems after all the info i have reviewed that if you are going to update a 3B, your end result would be the same, new internals, a better turbo and wiring instead of a splice and dice harness fit from a 200tq.
Is there really any difference if you were going to drop the compression anyway to meet 3B/AAN standards for the turbo?
