Timing Belt Flapping in the wind like my jewelry w/ out a jock strap while running.

I was told that it could destroy the engine. Anybody do this work? How hard is it and what will it cost more or less? 1980 5 CYL. Thanks,

Re: Timing Belt Flapping in the wind like my jewelry w/ out a jock strap while running.

I just tore my front end apart and started replacing the timing belt, but I think I'm a tooth off. I have a timing belt replacement manual from '97 that says the 2.3 and 2.2 are not interference type engines. I'm looking at the manual right now actually. It says only the camshaft type 2.0 5-cyl diesel is interference, all the gasoline 5-cyl are listed as non-interference.

For both 2.2 and 2.3, what is the consensus here guys? Interference? I would really like to know as well because... Well... I tried to start it and it didn't go... Hoping I haven't bent my valves *feels like a moron*.

What is your engine size and engine code?

NF code engines are non-interference as it turns out. I feel lucky.

Let me know and I'll give the the word.

5 Cyl and it's an ACU engine code

This engine could have been replaced in the past. Thanks.
