Are there any I5 experts who have tried this? I'm trying to rescue an 81 rust free coupe, and I have a 85 2.2 from a 4K QS. The 2.5 accesories are very rusty and have sat for a couple of years, the 2.1 stuff is clean and ran last month, except there is a hole where the #1 rod came out the side. I've sent the 2.2 block out to be prepped.

I see the one difference on the head gasket, an elongated water passage I could have welded by a cast specialist, and the head decked for $150. Are the gasket sets still available for these old I5 powerplants? FWIW, I've e-mailed my Q to the guys at Force-5 and I see Shokan shows a head gasket for the 81, but not the whole kit.

Am I crazy for trying this? Should I have just let the Coupe go to parts?

I know this is a lot to ask from a Noob, but I may just be crazy enough to make this 81 Classic Audi my daily driver!

I talked to Chris at Force5, and he told me to keep the head and get rid of the rest. Anyone have a air pump block off plate?
