Default How difficult would it be to get Maryland to cover a rim replacement?

on Saturday, I was driving to Crofton, on the offramp from 95 to 50 East there was a HUGE pothole I didn't see until it was too late and bent my rim something awful. I know I've heard of people getting the State to cover damages to their rims in the past, does anyone know how to go about doing this?

the bend is very noticeable and after I hit the pot hole, there is a very obvious shimmy in the steering wheel while driving...

Default Not sure about MD, but at least in NJ....

The town that has the pothole needs to be warned about it before you got the bend. So you can hit it, and then call and tell them about it, because (I guess) they were not given enough time to fix it. What my friend did at one point was report the pothole after he bent his rim, then waited a day and called, and lucky for him they hadn't repaired it yet. Good luck.

Default I got VA to cover my tire, but it took a whole month of non-stop pestering. Depends on what your

time is worth.

I was a law student at the time, so it was worth my while. Probably wouldn't do it again now that I'm working.

Default Call the MD automobile loss line (800) 942-0162

They helped me get reimbursed for a rim/tire a few years back.

Default thanks to kelbrig1, I found the following document for filing a claim against Maryland State...

<a href="http://www.treasurer.state.md.us/forms/Notice%20of%20Claim.pdf">Notice of Claim Form</a>

Located off <a href="http://www.treasurer.state.md.us/insurance.htm">State of Maryland Treasurer's Office Insurance Page</a>
