Default Poll: Dedicated Summer/Winter Wheels & Tires vs. Ultra Performance All Seasons?

SSIA. List your opinion and favorites.

In many respects A/S tires are a performance compromise in both summer and winter, yet the climate (at least here in NoVA) has generally mild winters with the exception of one or two decent snows/ice storms each winter, making hard core snow tires unesscessary.

This poll is not directed to those who track their cars or those who go North or West or to the back-country in the winter.

Default If you have the room for the spare set, then winter & summer.

Keep in mind that the additional cost is offset in part by the sharing of miles by two sets of tires.

I agree that you only NEED winter tires a few days each year; but when you do, you really need them. Winter tires are not "snow" tires and they are not going to impair driveability much.

Default I just switched to UHPAS tires.

The Falken 512's, feel better than the summer Contisports...so I'm pretty happy.

You do not need a winter tire here, as the M&S rated all season will do well. The Falkens are also M&S rated, like the Pzero Nero's.

In Indianapolis, we had a lot more snow, so I had AS's Falken 512's and dedicated snow tires.

Default Tell me how they handle the snow. I have a hard time believing that they can do both.

But I'm willing to be convinced.

Default Fine here, as we don't get that much snow..

We live out in the boonies (Marshall) so we had pretty good snow fall. Before I got my new tires I was running PZero Nero M&S tires, and they were great in the snow.

Now, in Indy, when the roads remain covered in snow for days, I used dedicated snow tires.

I only had my new tires out once in the snow, and they were as solid as they are in the dry, but the snow did not stick.

Default 2nd. Moreover, you get the benefit of having 2 sets of wheels to look at, and winter tires perform

better in cold temperatures anyway.

Default I vote for all seasons

It barely snows in mid atlantic and even if there is a huge ice storm: it only lasts for less than a day so why bother with dedicated snows?
