How many of you have had an incident on public roads where your on-track training was directly applied and where those skills saved your $%^# from a serious accident?

Just simply looking ahead and seeing potential incidents developing, has allowed for me to anticipate, plan & avoid having to use any 'driving' skills. And it's easy to notice how many other drivers on the road don't see things until pretty late in the game.
There was 1 time down in Hampton VA near an intersection, where a car on the on-coming traffic somehow drove across the narrow wet grassy median, and invaded into my lane. I saw her out of the corner of my eyes pretty late, but didn't panic and stayed on the throttle. She passed behind me but I did get splattered by the mud that she kicked up. That was my only 'close call'...

I was on my way to the Track Daze at VIR in August. I have a place in South Boston (VA) and was driving back roads to the Tech Inspection.
It was a rainy morning and two cars were coming in the opposite direction. The second car (80's vintage Caddy deVille...I remember the grill very well) crossed into my lane to avoid a puddle. I had to drive two wheels off in wet high grass at speed.
Wheels straight, easy off gas, no brake, ease back on asphalt when under control. No Spin...
I was pulling grass out of the suspension for the whole event.

Although just recently it should've helped but didn't see the dead deer in the road soon enough to make it safely around it. Had to go over it but thankfully only minor damage to the underneath of the car (heat shield bent etc).
Its amazing how the mindset of looking far ahead has helped out whether on back roads or interstates. You truly can use every day what you learn at the track.

Nothing I can point to, but...
... (1) vision probably keeps me out of trouble before it happens, and (2) getting my rocks off on track makes me less likely to take chances on the roads.

Yup. Last winter.
Car spun out in front of me on ice, I eased off the gas, checked my mirrors, and got out of the way of the car behind me that was coming up way too fast and unable to brake on the ice.
Worked out well.
