so im a firm believer in running dedicated summers and dedicated winters, BUT
as i possibly need new snows, im considering something else...
i currently have blizzak mz01's iirc (i store them at a buddies in bmore) which are a few years old, discontinued, love them but i think i remember noticing from last year that they were on their way out...
im originally from CT, so i've always been about having a pretty "hard core" snow tire, but being in dc now, im wondering if i can do well by the nokian WR's, which from my searches are "all season" but seems people rave about them in the snow just as much if not more so than many other snow tires out there?
can anyone recommend unequivocably (sp?) the WR's or go with RSI's...if not these, i guess im considering sticking with blizzaks or maybe m3's

I'd say... for the most part, here in DC.. you don't need dedicated, just a good all season....
others will say that it's good to dedicated. It all depends, where exactly in DC are you? Out west in VA or in MD? And, do you drive to work? And how essential is it for you to be at work regardless of the weather?
From what I've heard on the B6S4 forum, the m3s and wr are the top choices.

Id agree, kind of...
My reasoning is that if you already have a set of dedicated summers and will be swapping them out for another set of wheels in the winter, why not go with snows just in case?
I agree they are not needed as here in the DC area most of the snow we tend to get is only a dusting or maybe a couple inches. however, we do tend to get a lot of ice around here also with the constant temperature changes.
what it all comes down to is if you want to spend the extra money to buy snow tires as they tend to be more expensive than all seasons. If you do go all seasons im sure you would be perfectly fine. hey, i ran my summers all witner a couple years ago without a single problem :-P

my thinking is this...
i live in dc...it is pretty near mandatory to be in work regardless of snow conditions...and often i will have to drive around in it all day as part of my job...
i had just been reading that the WR's were so good in the snow...that they were worth it when you factor there good wear and dry/wet perf too, when you compare it to the RSI ded. snow which obv. gives up some dry and wear...
i am more than willing to make the sac for good snows...but from what i read it looked like the WR was as close to being a "have your cake and eat it too" in all but the most severe of severe conditions...but i also hear ya on the ice and the RSI are supposed to do better there...hmmmmmm
