anti lock light on
I have an 88 90 that has developed a problrm. The Anti-lock light in the instument cluster has come on and will not go off. Also the light in the switch has gone out. is this a coincedence? It is not a big problem except for the bright orange light.

Jevon,<p>Mine would do that occasionally, and I would also have the ABS kicking in unnecessarily at low speeds. In my case, it was a bad sensor at one of the front wheels. This is the simplest and most common problem (though not cheap by any stretch of the imagination!). Dealer charge for a sensor is $320 for the part alone, but I got down to $210 at Europarts. The best thing I could suggest is to take the car to an independant shop and have them test the ABS. It will only cost about $30 to test the system, and then you will know exactly which part needs to be replaced. There is the possibility that your dash switch is messed up, but I'd put my money on the sensor, sadly. :-( <p>By the way, did you hear about Ryan Greenier's car? :-(<p>Charles<br>

Old Coupe Quattro exhibited a similar fate. I tried repalceing the sensors but requires a deft installation hand (mine were a push-in style which I pushed in too far and had tip ground of by sensor wheel; I think yours are a bolt-in style - easier to mount correctly).<p>I don't know what you mean by the light is bad; if this is the nighttime illumination, is likely a burnt-out bulb which either requires a new switch or disassembly of the switch and desoldering old bulb and soldering in of new one (if you can find right size; major headache). This was what I had to do on the seat heater switches; I suspect ABS light is similar.
