Dashlight ; The Final Frontier...
I've been having problems with my dashlight (Audi 80 1.8s 1987) for a long time now. They come and go whenever they please. All warning lights work, but the lights of the speedometer and the lights of the heater (central console, underneath the radio) only work sometimes.
I've just been working on my car again to find the cause of the problem, and I suddenly found two loose cables (green/white and brown). They were hidden deeply in the car, behind the radio. Power flows through it as soon as I turn on the headlights. My guess is that these cables should be connected to the heater somewhere, causing the lights behind the heater switches to light up as soon as the headlights are turned on. Is it possible that when I installed the radio/cd player, I accidently loosened these cables, so they would make bad contact (and that I've disconnected them now completely)? This would mean that the dashlights (speedometer etc.) are somehow connected to these cables.
Now, if I manage to connect these two cables again, I guess that everything should work again..
I would be very happy if someone could confirm all of this and possibly tell me the location of where exactly these two cables should be connected to the heater system. I would be very very very grateful, since this problem has taken up a lot of time already and I'd like to solve it...
Thanks!!! :-D
