Default More on transmission problem
I have also noticed that the reverse lights dont work and the dash display which shows you which spot the transmission is in doesnt light up the relevant spot.

Default Update on transmission problem
I read the manual, it states that the car has gone into fail safe mode and to take it to the local dealer. The dealer did a tranmission service on the car only 10k ago. So it better not be low on fluid. And how do you check the tranny fluid on these cars?

Default If it's like my car (97 A6) you go buy $200 worth of hardware and software, go buy ...
a dipstick at the Audi dealer, get a $100 Bentley CD and have at it.

Maybe you are luckier than me.

Get the VAG-COM software, read out the Diagnostic Trouble Code from the TCM (tranny control module)
