Motor oil viscosity on Audi 80(or any Audi for that matter)

it's time to change motor oil on my 89 Audi80. I've been using Mobil 1 15-50. I've been told by one mechanic that using 10-30 will damage the engine, but an Audi dealer told me 10-30 is what they use on all Audis. So who should I listen to?

Also, I'm getting very low power from the car, like it doesn't wanna go. Parking brake is off(don't know if any calipers froze the brakes in place). Maybe it's the fuel pump, maybe it's a million other things. It's an AT.

Thanks!

Very "bright" mechanic you have there..............

He must be an "Oil Engineer"?

Basically he's full of poop!(to put it mildly)

Either grade of oil will do. Unless your running
laps at Indy, then I'd stay with the 15w-50.

The Audi/Vw 4 cylinders run slightly hotter that
most, and 15w-50 is often the oil of choice.

But, running a good 10w oil will do just fine, unless you "race" the engine, then stick with the 15w. Of course the severity of your winters will
have an effect on the 15w, untill the engine warms
up.

You might want to find a different mechanic! Who knows what other bright ideas he has instore for you!

As fer the low power issue, it could be anything.
What did your mechanic say about it?

Very funny. Audi 5w30 up to 93+F. Use synthetic.
