S2 motor into 1990 quattro coupe?
I am looking for a turbo upgrade for the 1990 audi quattro coupe. I have heard the engine/turbo from an S2 will swap in, can anyone confirm this? Basically I am looking for alot more power for my track car..the chip and exhaust just aren't cutting it. Any other suggestions/options out there? TIA

If it is the 5cyl. 20V than the S2 motor will bolt right in, it is the same block and the mount of your motor will bolt right on to the s2 or the s6 motor. if I were you I wowld look for the s6 motor since there was more s6,s imported.I have done the conversion in 1999 it is a bolt on all you have to do is to play with the electronics.
If you are using the car as a track car then I wowld strongly recomend a stand alone(haltech).I have the mapig so all you have to do is loaded in your laptop and you set to go with any tuninng.
I did 2 conversions with the 20V and it is very straight forward if you have anny questions just ask me.

A couple people have done it....

Brandon Hull in NC did it, Chick Wells in Atlanta is going to do it, and there are some others who have already done it. Best bet is to join the 20v.org mailing list, since they have the most knowledge of the conversion.
If I remember correctly, if you use the 20v turbo out of a '91 200TQ, you will have to re-route the intake, and move the alternator to the opposite side of the engine. Not easy to do, not cheap to do, not fun to do....but it makes for an incredible car.

Ersatz S2 Conversion home page

RE: Engine
You can use any of the 20v turbo engines available in the US.
91 200 turbo quattro
92-94 S4
95-97 (Canada after 95.5) S6
The links mentioned on hte other posts go into the good vs bad of these engines. There are some difference between the 91 and 92-on engines. S4/S6 engines are identical.
