Default Where's the 90 and 120 marks???

Mine doesn't have any numbers you'll have to fill me in!!!

The '95 and the '90 run at the first thick white line all the time. The '91 runs just above the first thin white line after the thick white line(does that make sense?) when it's in the mid 80's and up. Otherwise the '91 runs at the first thick white line!!

Agreed; black=fuel, blue=oil, white=coolant or water vapour

Default Re: '95 90 not a 93.

Your 95 90, has the same engine my 93 90 has.
V6 12v, also found in several other Audi models.
Where many of the engine parts, are shared amongst various Vw & Audi models.
Certain model VolVo's have an Audi engine. Many Porsche parts are interchangable with Vw & Audi parts as well.

I guess the US model and Canadian model are different since we use the Celsius scale (like the Germans) up here and you guys use Fahrenheit. Instead of re-calculating the scale for the U.S. market they must have just left the Celsuis scale intact and removed any numerical indication as to what the temperature is. I don't remember off hand which bar is which by physical description. As far as I can recall they're all the same thickness. What I'll do is take a picture of the dash when I get a chance and post it.

Default Blue like Papa Smurf!

Ok, ok, white smoke, with a light bluish tint.

Water looks like steam, not "smoke".

Only "blue" smoke I've ever seen was in the military.

White with blueish tint.

Default Volvo cars?

That's a new one for me, I didn't know Volvo's used any Audi parts. Are you referring to Euro only cars?

As for Porsche, yes....ever notice how familiar the climate control display on Boxster looks? Just an Audi unit (The 1992-1999 display) with "rounder" buttons. Some newer Ferraris use the electric mirror switches from early 90 Audis.

And of couse....I have a 944S as weekend car....and it's full of Audi parts!<p>Christian J. Long

Ok, I checked again and you're right there are thick and thin lines. On mine the first thick line is 90C then two thin lines with the next thick line being 130C.

My car on a cool day is usually at the 90 mark. On a hot day in traffice it's just at the first thin line after 90.

Default Okay!!! In that case....

...when it gets moderately hot(85+ F) then my '91 will go to somewhere around 105 C. The other cars always run at 90 C.

It's nice to be able to put numbers to the water temp. guage!!! Thanks!

Default engine temps...

i see alot of people have the 2.8 v6 and its a hot running engine. i have the old 4 and my needle never goes over the first heavy white line. with a oil cooler, the new coolant and just a good working system on the highway the needle drops below the hash mark making the engine run very cool.
i have about 140k and even i get alittle bit of engine oil munching but nothing too extreme though on a long trip to maine (1500k) it went through a qt or more.
