Been riding for one month and got my first punctured tire - can you plug these things?

Screw is lodged in front tire. Didn't even notice it while I was riding. I saw it this afternoon as I was admiring my bike. Do shops plug motorcycle tires like car tires, or will I need to buy a new tire?

Default not all the time

Motorcycle tires are very different than car tires - just look at the shape of them. Depends how far up the side it is.....also, I tend NOT to plug as a plug given out on a car is alot less painful then a plug giving out on a motorcycle.

Default We got guys locally that have ridden with plugged tires until the tire was at the end of its useful

life. Its all up to the rider to decide what to do.

Default There are issues.

Issue 1: Any plug negates the speed rating of a tire, i.e., a tire with a plug should only be run to 80mph regardless of manufacturer's speed rating.

Issue 2: There should only ever be one plug per tire quadrant.

Issue 3: There should only ever be two plugs total per tire.

Issue 4: Many motorcycle shops will not put a plug in a tire for you. Depending on your local shops, it may be DIY only.

I'd personally only use a plug in an emergency and replace the damaged tire ASAP.

It's up to you what your safety/life is worth. A blowout on a motorcycle is a vastly different situation than in a car.

Default agree, up to the rider - I'd spend the $175 - not worth the consequences IMO.

No question.

Default Agreed. Do you really want to trust a plug...

when the only thing keeping you from sliding down the road is a contact patch only a few square inches big? Spend the money just so you don't have to worry about it.
