Mine rides with me...and never too far...but my bike has a big passenger area.
id imagine it would get dodgy on my arms after a while but she can stretch out a bit and grab the tail bars for support.
Plus...shes only 4'10".

My SO rides with me as well...
...but similar to your guys' situation, my fiance is 5'2" and ~105lbs so room isn't much of an issue.
Just make sure you go over all the safety rules. Explain leaning in to corners, mount and dismount only when you're on the bike with two feet planted, don't touch the muffler, etc.
As far as comfort, I'm sure you're carring some kind of pack (whether it be a backpack or tankbag) so bring a couple bottles of water and some snacks like granola bars, etc. Don't put anything under her *** if the seat is too hard. I've seen people use jackets, towels, shirts, etc and it's extremely unsafe. Not only can your passenger slide around, but whatever they're sitting on can easily slide off and get caught in the wheel. Take fairly regular breaks as well...like every hour or so to stretch and see how she's doing and if there's anything you need to discuss. Yelling back and forth at each other riding at highway speed isn't fun...or safe. So don't save that conversation about how you hate her mom for the ride.
