Default "Got Tires?"

I am going to need them...I have a number of track events scheduled in the next couple of weeks/months...lets see...

July 2 - Instruct for Todd Serota/TracQuest School at Thunderhill Park Raceway
July 28 - Instruct for private track session at Thunderhill Park Raceway
August 15 or 16 - Instruct for Todd Serota at Buttonwillow Raceway
November 11 or 12 - Participate in TrackTime School at Laguna Seca Raceway
November 13-14 - Instruct for Quattro Club at Sears Point Raceway

I better put in my order for tires now....YIKES.

Somehow I don't think I am gonna be able to get those Kumhos I like.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3821"><br><br>

Default I've got 8 track days on my Kumhos...

and they look to be good for at least 4 more. I'm really happy with their wear characteristics :^) Now I'm rotating them side to side to increase their life; I guess the AutoXing you do takes their toll, too!

Default Well, i got some Kuhmo's you can use but they are 16" :( Since I like using my 17" R-1's now,

i figured I'll just burn up these Kuhmos on THill and a few more track events and then swap back my winter tires on the stock rim.

But can you use the Kuhmo's?

Not sure what size you're using (could it be the hard-to-get 225/45/17?), but here's my $.02:

- Put your order in with Tire Rack now. The date shown on their web site appears to be the approximate date you'll get them if you order today. I just got a set that I ordered in early May (or was it April?).

- If you can't get the Kumhos, the next closest thing if you want a "streetable" comp tire, appears to be the Pirelli P-Zero "C". Several tire shops I've dealt with (some who sell both the Kumho & Pirelli) say the Pirelli is a better performer. Similar tread depth, so probably similar wear/life. The Pirelli costs quite a bit more (should be able to get most 17" sizes for ~$210), but if you don't have choices...

Good luck!!

ps I may see you at some of those events. My wife & I will be attending Todd's TH event. Won't be driving our Avant - the 93 Porsche RSA works a bit better at the track!! We're just learning track driving, so don't judge the car by the drivers

Default I don't know why...

... there is such a tendency toward standardization on 225/45-17 as the Audi 17-inch tire due to supply problems and limited consumer choice in this size. :-(

TT, of course, has this as the stock tire size, making the problem yet worse.

RS-A isn't too hard to find tires for... guess that's another plus to your track car choice :-)

Default Re: I don't know why...

...except I use 225/45-17s on the front of the RSA, so tires have been an issue this year, given the limited Kumho supply in that size.
