Default "Thin" helmets?

I'm having helment clearance problems in my '00 S4 w/sunroof. I have the seat all the way down and still have to lean the seat way back to keep from bumping the helmet on the headliner.

I'm just wondering if anybody has any suggestions for a helmet that may not be as thick on top as my Simpson LX helmet.

Default

I would expect anything meeting '90 or '95 SNELL ratings (M or SA) would be similar (nt)

Default I got the same problem...try rotating the seat on its axis

Yes, you will be more layed back...but you can still drive. I have a Bell M2...I open the moonroof shade....if they let you...you might try making the moonroof vent go up in the back. Most track events I got to tell me to close my sunroof/moonroof. To be honest, I am starting to get use to the laid back feeling now...I just did it for a 2 day track event.

Default Also try opening the sunroof 100% all the way...

...when you do this, the sliding cover disappears completely into the roof structure, letting your helmet stick up unobstructed into the sunroof cutout.

If you can find an older helmet, you may find one that is thinner. A few of the loaner helmets I used at my first SCCA autocrosses were probably an inch thinner than the newer SA95 ones.

Default I'm not that experience in auto-x and driver schools, but ...

I have NEVER heard of a school or Auto-x letting you open the sunroof. WAAAY too may liability problems in a roll-over, i would guess.

Default Fully open or fully closed, not tilted up

My helmet sticks out the top of the car. As long as I am not wearing a harness, my body can bend out of the way in a rollover. Would it really be better for me to drive with my head at a 45 degree angle already smushed against the top of the car - and then roll over?

They do allow convertibles . . .

Default Yeah, my simpson LX8 is bumping into the headliner

The helmet is protruding just enough so I have to **** my head (er, hmmm) and lean the seat back a little.

Probably not ideal, but can't do a damn thing about it.

These seats suck. I may ship a pair of manual Recaros from an Euro S4 when I take my trip to Germany in May.
