My point is that
these driving schools aren't for that. If you want some sort of timing, competition, etc, go to a race school where you can bring your own car.
The insurance policy of ACNA forbids timing equipment. Sure, some people may hide stopwatches or use them in the paddock. But timing could get the club's insurance policy voided and cause problems for people's regular insurance if there was an incident.
Basically, I am saying that ACNA events aren't the proper location for a "shootout." It's not a race, it isn't a competition...and brining those elements to an event puts all the participants in danger.

I agree, but you've got to be kidding me that no one has a stopwatch or video of lap times at ACCNA
events. I don't know how many times I've read on this forum that someone is doing X average laps and their best is Y at some track duing an ACCNA driving school. Obviously, timing is being done at these ACCNA schools. Or, everyone is just talking out of their a$$es, which it might be in some cases.
I'm not talking about making this the first leg of a ShootOut with racing, braking, 1/4, dyno, etc. like the S4s just did.
In any event, I'll drop the A4 shootout theme. There are several of us in the NE region that do events via various clubs and we'd like to meet up with the Chicago crew. That is all.

Like I said, people have stopwatches in the pits/paddock and video
cameras in their cars...and THAT worried me as an eventmaster as well. If a car wrecks and the guy has a split-timer on his dash (even with velcro) and is airlifted out, if an insurance agent sees that...could be major problems. Sure, it's unlikely...but it's a concern.
It's impossible to police as an eventmaster (which I am/have been), but it's something I mention at any event I run: timers are NOT allowed.

And that's as much as you can do to cover yourself for ACCNA without inspecting every car
before each session and policing everyone watching.
I'm only attempting to get a few people together who track their Audis between Chicago, Philly and Boston who most only know each other over the forums or through friends of friends.
Nothing more.

My advice:
Valium's right about the ACNA events. There's really no place for any of that there. Yeah, lots of people secretly do timing, but I think it's a bad idea. It counters the whole point of the safety school concept. The ACNA has a great insurance rating and I'd like to keep it that way. In the competition you suggest, people would be taking risks to beat eachother. Some of the people with the most powerfull cars may not have the skills to match their vehicles. This can be very dangerous. I've witnessed this before and it's just not a good idea.
If you want to find out who is the fastest guy at a track, then rent the track and send invitations. Most tracks are have off season rates this time of year. You can call them and see if they have any open track days where you can pay and drive. However, you are on your own for liability. If you ball up your nice car, you will be screwed. Furthermore, some of the people who will attend your event may be novices. Do you really want them to try and keep up with you, regardless of how fast their A4s are? I think proper instruction comes first.
Autocrossing is a good solution too. The Chicago chapter will have another five of them next year.
Sorry to be negative, but I think there are lots of factors you are overlooking. I am the president of the Chicago chapter and there is just no way I can allow people to compete at an ACNA school. The risk is too great.
