Default Another reason for not using cross-drilled rotors...

Besides shortening your pad life, they can be dangerous. On Thursday at Lime Rock (QClub event), a blue TT with Zimmerman cross-drilled rotors up front lost just about everything on the front right corner heading into the right-hand "uphill." He is lucky it was his right wheel. His rotor, caliper and wheel were all over the track. It literaly ruptured. It hasn't been confirmed that rotor started the whole chain reaction. However, given that some of the wheel is still on the car, I would think it was the rotor.

On another note, has anyone tried Mintex "real" race pads (not the C-Tech)? An instructor in an M3 was using them and he absolutely loved them. He did mention that he is still on his first set of pads but he is already on his second set of rotors (ouch).

Default Sounds like this story from earlier this year:

In that case, there was no doubt it was the rotor that fell apart first.

https://forums.audiworld.com/qclubflorida/msgs/15789.phtml</a

Default From what I understand he ran for some time with no pad on the backing plate.

Could be a contributing factor to the rotors demise.

Default I have the 1166's on the back of my M5

Just a little noisy (only on first application, if there is any heat they are quiet) and I am actually running them on the street. No noticeable rotor wear yet. I have another set of 1144's I usually run on the street which is their first level of Ctech. They have better cold bite but not as good on track as the 1166's.
