Default Argh, what a freakin' nightmare!

1:54 right out of the box is damn respectable though. I don't think anyone else was going much quicker than that. Any chance you'll get it put back together for November?

Regarding the enduro: I don't have very much interest, but these guys have a pretty quick car and if they drive conservatively they might have a shot at finishing well. For the track time you get it's a bargain though.

Default Wow

That would be damn fast. I am curious about a few challenges:

First - which Stohr? Lee Stohr cars or the old Stohr/West?

Fuel Cell size. Would you go larger? Obviously you would change the filler to the outside.

Oil - Would you go dry sump (I assume you would have to)? MC engines tend to use a fair amount of oil so make sure you have the ability to measure and add.

Chain. Do you think it will last 25 hours?

Seating. It is a tight, bead seat. How would you accomodate multiple drivers as the seat insert is a bear to swap out.

Electrical/lights - will you add battery? I wonder if the motorcycle alternator is enough.

That would be very cool if you guys can put it together.

Default no, I'm waaaay back in line for the motor...

"couple of months" was the estimate I got, plus it's a couple of weeks before my beginning motor gets up there and I spent the day disassembling my current motor to send him all the install specific parts.

There is a team called McGee motorsports who runs a car just like mine in the SCCA enduros with good success and the guy I have now is their engine builder so I'm pretty optimistic.

How come when I get gold nuggets it COSTS me? heh...>

Parts are bagged though and ready to ship up there...>

If you can do the 25, do it...nothing like racing at night in the rain with 50 of your closest friends ;-P

Default you have to replace the chain every 8-10 hours...

and run a chain oiler. No way it'll do 25 hours. We talked to D.I.D. about it and 10 is the ABSOLUTE limit for something like a 530ZVM in those conditions. Hell the wheel bearings can barely do that continuously.

The motorcycle alternator is "kind of" enough if you do the lights correctly and yeah, you gotta have a dry-break or something. Also needs center-lug wheels or the car is going to spend too much time in the pits. In the production classes, you are limited to 1 tire at a time and 5 gallon cans but in ESR and SU, there are no restrictions so cars with center-lugs and air-jacks and fuel rigs have a HUGE advantage. 1-5 minutes per hour of wasted pit time means you can go as fast as you want but you'll never win.

Would be interesting to see, there's supposedly a Mazda powered A-Mac being built for that race with something like 20 gallons of fuel on-board. Didn't hear if it was really going to run in the 25 but that was A-Mac's goal.

25 hours is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY longer and harder than most people realize...every single part in the car gets worn out...we have not only the race motor/tranny but a spare because there's only about a 50% chance of the enduro spec Honda motor lasting.

Also need 4 corners of hubs and brake calipers/rotors (just in case) etc.

That SR3 managed to finish last year though it's a far more rugged and basic car than a Stohr and even then they had diff/tranny problems at the end.

Ultimately if you want to win a race like that overall, bring a Porsche.

Default yeah?

when they have to move the driver's meeting out of the tent because it's in danger of blowing away in horizontal rain...that's when you know you must REALLY love racing to be there :-)

Last year was in real danger of snow until a high-pressure system saved the day.

This was us in the 12 hour in 01...worst weather evar heh.

Default over 25 hours, no car is bullet-proof...

but figure 1:20 per stint then 2-5 minutes in the pits for production classes (limited to hand-filling with 5 gallon cans and 1 tire per stop replacement).

We're running 5 drivers because that's how many people we wanted on our team...that's probably fairly typical. You need every driver able to drive the same laptimes so getting a ton of drivers is okay if you don't care about finishing position.

But the car that is on the track the most wins so the goal is to spend as little time in the pits as possible.

Default Car would be West Race Cars owned. designed, supported. You think Pobst has no 24 hour experience?

He sort of won the 24 hours of daytona.

He has already tested the car.

You missed that it also needs lights, as well as a remote fueler.

Oh well, as I pointed out last year, the Stohr's contine to obliterate the Radicals at the Run Offs. With factory support and an endurance build the car is capable.

The key is the driver fees and logistics, which don't look as good as the car set up.
