Anyone know roughly where Ingolstadt and Nurburgring are, relative to Munich ?
I'm heading to Germany in a month or so, and woudl like to visit both the Audi factory, and the Nurburgring track.
Mostly I will be around Munich and maybe Bremen. It looks like Ingolstadt is just north of Munich, but I haven't been able to find the Nurburgring.
I heard somewhere (could be B.S.) that anyone can drive their car around Nurburgring because it's all public road. Is this true ?
Thanks,
Mike.

some answers
First, check out mapquest for exact maps and driving distances (yes, it works for europe -- just click the link below).
The Nurburgring is a *long* way from munich; it's in western germany, near the luxembourg border and roughly between frankfurt and cologne.
Ingolstadt is much closer -- within a few hours of munich, if I remember correctly.
Bremen is in way northern germany, and would be within a 4 hour drive of the 'ring, assuming good traffic.
And yes, you can drive any car on the nurburgring... including your rental car. Check out http://www.nuerburgring.de/ for opening times -- it's usually open only in the evening.
But if you don't have track experience, be careful! :-)

http://www.mapquest.com/directions/europe.adp</a

Very weird
I am also in Norcal.
I am also going to Europe next month (Spet 6th to be exact)
I will also be in Munich and hitting the 'Ring.
Yes, Ingolstadt is less than an hour from Munich, do the tour. Actually, we're touring the BMW, Audi, Porsche and Mercedes factories and museums as well as going to the Frankfirt Autoshow for two days. Hitting the "Ring" on at least one day. It is not open every day, but is on most evenings and some weekends, they have a website with the schedule, check it out. $11/lap.
BTW, you are aware that Bremen is NOWHERE near Munich, right? Other end of the country.
Enjoy your trip.
Look for me, I'm about 6'2", 210lbs. and have blondish hair. You can't miss me :-)
