Despite the economy.....82 entries for 55 places - 24 Heures Du Mans

Unless Peugeot comes to Sebring we won't get to see Audi vs Peugeot in the US until the end of
the LMS season, for Petit Le Mans, like last year, although Allan McNish says on www.crash.net that he predicts Sebring will be a "titanic battle between Audi, Peugeot and Acura for the outright win".

Allan is not only one with that prediction. . .
Scott Atherton also said that on 12 January..."Sebring ironically is going to be quite possibly bigger than it was in '08. There are two (diesel powered) Peugeots confirmed, the world premier of the Audi R15 which they've told everyone the first time you'll see it is when they unload it in Sebring. The Acura debut with their LMP1 car."
Yes, the Pugs if wanted, could use the LMS races for testing for the big one but if the speeds are like last year, the races aren't the full 6 hours whereas Sebring would provide them 12 hours of getting the hell beat out of the car. That in itself lends to determine the reliability aspects of the cars. Barcelona and Spa have a far better surface, even with some of Spa being public roadway.
I must agree with Allan and Scott about Sebring.

Re: Nothing would make me happier than to find out Audi has decided to run a couple more
I think your comment of hope springs eternal is perhaps a correct one. Petit maybe, but I would question Joest putting the money into Road America when the LMS race (confirmed entry of 49 cars) is forthcoming in Germany shortly after RA (maybe grid of 20 or less cars). The lure of Petit is 10 hours of racing and the auto invite for the 24h in 2010.

Aston competitive - ABSOLUTELY! The Charouz was stupid quick
Dave Richards is no fool and is at the top of his game in whatever class it may be. I think that the Charouz Aston/Lola was a test last year for the works P1 this year.
LeMans 1959 - David Brown Racing - Aston Martin DBR1/300 with Carroll Shelby and Roy Salvatori FIRST place, 2nd place DBR AM DRB1/300. Shelby and Salvatori finishing with a 25 lap lead over 3rd place. What an impetus for a 50th anniversary!!!

They were only in the pits because it got thrown off in the kitty litter early on
and the car kept suffering issues as a result.
2 hours in and Jan Charouz threw it off, took them 12 laps to get it running again and even after that the front end wasn't right according to Tomas the Tank Enge.
