Default D'oh...we're THIS close to selling the Civic this weekend and...

I'm already missing it.

I'm going to have a measley $10k in my race-fund and the challenge of finding something I enjoy driving (the Civic was fun to race...never fun to drive).

Looking at all sorts of stuff, D-sports racers, Karts...just don't know what to do.

Problems include:
No space for a trailer
No truck (or desire/money to get one)
(those are possibly negated by U-Haul)
Small garage

Was looking at Daphne's Fisher Fury but that doesn't look like it has a proper cage or would be able to be raced in anything.

I know Spec Racer Ford but they're too slow...I could barely tolerate the Civic as it was.

Any ideas?

Default You sound very conflicted...

...so I'll just try to screw you up even more.

Fisher Fury looks like a bad copy of an even worse car - a Ginetta. The only Ginetta worth its salt is a G12, and nobody's really copying them and there were only 40-50 made anyway. Besides the self-serving gobbly-gook on their web page, the Fury doesn't fall anywhere into a current class in SCCA Nat'l club racing. Like Ginetta's and Lotus' and all that other crap...they're all just cob-jobs. God I hate British cars.

Spec Racer Ford slow ? It's maybe 5-10 secs./lap faster than your Civic on most tracks, and speed is irrelevant when you're in a pack of 40-50 SRF's contesting the ownership of Turn 1 on Lap 1. Faster race car classes spread out really fast, and there is nobody to play with. Lone exception these days is FC. The Continental guys in the east have replaced the SRF'ers as the "crashing banging bad boys".

"Toyota World Sports Racers" are still really cheap...seen injected cars in the $15k range lately, carb ones seem to be $10-13k. Hopelessly outclassed in C-Sports...but fast anyway.

Since you have trailer/tow vehicle issues, there is always Spec Miata. I, myownbadsef, have acquired a street beater Miata that will become an SM this fall. Slow...almost as slow as my ITB car...but there is a raft of them and speed is irrelevant (didn't I already say that once ?) when you're in that big, snarling, blood-thirsty pack.

And...besides all that...the words "Rotax" and "kart" seem to go well together.

Aren't I helpful ?

Default Too Slow?? SRF will absolutely kill a Civic anywhere!!

Unless you have some sort of "rice rocket" an SRF will kill any Civic at any track. It can get to 60 mph in a respectable 6 1/2 seconds so unless you have some sort of Type R engine dropped in or a turbo kit, it aint slower than a Civic.

Top speed is nothing to get excited about in a SRF but 120 ain't bad compared to a Civic.

At Summit Point Raceway my SRF is faster by 1/2 second from turn 3 through turn 9 (Summit had 10 turns) than my 400 hp Challenge car.

Unless you are running at high speed ovals or the Nurburgring an SRF will be faster than any tin top race car running in ITA/ITB/ITC/ITS or the like.

Jon

Default heh...

actually the SRFs are only a couple of seconds a lap faster...keep in mind that on an order of magnitude, the Civic is the slowest race car I've ever driven so that's my frame of reference.

I think it's 24K from your CSR. Figure another 3-4K for labor.

Seems the Civic is pretty fast at Laguna. Here on the East Coast the SRF is faster by 7-8 seconds at Watkins Glen and 3-4 second at Summit Point.
