Of course they weren't sold in the 'states...
We were mortal enemies with the "reds", and couldn't dream of importing anything from the USSR. Never mind that we had to buy Polish vacuum tubes for some of our early warning system sites...
Of course the Yugo was tried here, and I doubt the Lada would have faired much better.
Did anyone else see the Lada stunt driving team at the '86 World's Fair in Vancouver? One of their stunts was to put a sedan up on two wheels and have guys standing on hood and trunk racks change two tires (including getting them in and out of the trunk) while the car was driving around an ~200m track.

Where's the writeup on Maine Forest?

"real" rallies are too expensive for now (I'm going back to school for 9 months starting this fall), so I expect the next event to be Rallye Sprint Lachute in early December (I'm doing that event no matter what, whether in the Mazda or the Lada, the Mazda is still ready and legal in that series). Basically, we have to see what kind of basket case the Lada is to see what can be done and when. Also, I've never heard of the Black River event. So since there's virtually no budget for racing this winter, I will limit myself to 1 or 2 rally sprints and winter autocross in the snow.
