NASA officials' email for HPDE feedback

A number of participants of yesterday's NASA HPDE at Thunderhill expressed opinions that I think should be heard by the HPDE officials. As NASA's "customers", I know your feedback is appreciated.

Barry Hartzel was the gentleman who ran the driver's meeting and was in charge of the event. His email is hartzel97@aol.com

Ralph Alexander is Head Instructor and works with Barry on HPDE events, policy and procedure. His email is ralexander@rja-a.com

Please take the time to relate your constructive feedback, as it will hopefully lead to events that suit everyone's needs even better.

Thanks,
-jerry

Thanks, Jerry. I plan to e-mail them.

Please be tactful...(more)

I also think that some appearance of a "school" would be helpful. Some breakout sessions after each session like they do at regular HPDE's. This would alleviate some concerns I would have making an insurance claim with an "open track" format. As I am a NASA Official, I would rather someone else make the recommendation. I will make those suggestions in person.

I will be the soul of discretion!! ...(more)

...though I'm not sure how much weight they'll give to a "Novices" comments.

I hope that was there will give feedback...

As in all sports, we must encourage the "newbies" to continue to grow it. Fresh folks, fresh viewpoints, fresh ideas - and hopefully, fresh volunteers! ;^)

The guys that have been around for awhile start to accept things the way they are... besides, we have no other social life, except at race tracks! ;^)

BTW, I'm serious about volunteers. They pay is lousy, but the perks are great, such as:

Free lunch. Hmmm... doesn't turn you on?

How about FREE TRACK TIME. Got your attention? ;^)

I emailed them...

ReyHey 12-06-2000 09:22 AM

what services do volunteers do?

J Brown 12-06-2000 10:34 AM

Virtually everything is done by volunteers...

The NASA Tow and Safety crews are all volunteers; all the Timing and Scoring folks; all the grid workers, and more.

Certainly, volunteer help is appreciated in any capacity, but most of the folks that are interested in combining volunteering and driving help in the pre-grid and pit lane.

You might have noticed on Sunday, Paer (the red '88 M6), Kevin (white '91 M5, and I (red '88 635 CSi) alternated between driving and staffing the center gate.

Honestly, with 2 college-age kids, and the high cost of living in Silly Valley, working/driving is the only way I can afford to do 25+ track days a year.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you'd like more info about volunteering, or NASA in general.
