Default What does everyone think of the Topspin harness bracket?

I would like to get a harness to use for autoX just to hold me in place better. However, I heard that getting a harness without a rollcage is extremely dangerous. Is this true even if I only used a 4-pt harness? Also, the harness would be guided through the topspin harness bracket so it would be above my shoulder. I talked to a person from topspin and he said it would be perfectly safe even on the street. I'd just like to get your opinions before I go ahead and buy it. Info+pics are in the link below. TIA.

http://www.topspindesign.com/products/harness.htm</a

Default So what's the benefit of this over just using a schroth harness?

I'm not sure I get it.

I'm only 5'4". For me the harness always touches the seat (this was the case with the schroth on stock seats and is the case with the harness bar+sparco harness on the race seats), and I'm not convinced that it's putting me in any grave danger.

I'm not sold on a $180 bracket especially when you still have to buy the harness.

BTW, the general concern on harness without rollcages is that you shouldn't use a submarine belt (5th &/or 6th points) if you don't have a cage. In the event of a rollover, you would want the ability to submarine if there is no cage protecting you from a caving roof. If you have a cage, definitely use the submarine belts.

Default this bracket holds the harness in place...

unlike the few lucky ones who has slots in their seats...

but if one has his/her harness mounted correctly, one should not have to worry about it slipping away....

Default hmmmm

good question....most of the time, the shoulder straps should be mounted low...like where your seat anchors are...
the proper instruction should come with any decent harness you buy.

the other choice would be to get a harness bar with tabs/slots for the 3 inch belts...

and get a bucket seat which will allow you to slot the harnesses in properly.

of cuz, if you could get a roll bar, it would be most ideal....

When I got my "track car" a roll bar was one of the first things I bought..with 3 inch harnesses...

Default I agree...why not save the 180 and buy a better harness?

or use that 180 towards a proper harness bar....

Sharon..who made that harness bar..I recall someone had one in their A4/S4?

Default I'm still fairly new to all this, so I admit I don't know much about it.

I did sit in a car that had the harness bracket and the bracket enabled the harness to be above my shoulder. Myy shoulders are higher than the seat back (I'm 6'1"). Can you tell me more about the harness bar? Pics would be much appreciated too. Of course if I don't have to spend this much money for this, I'd rather not. :-)

Default no, it's a custom job

made for us by a local shop.

Someone (geza?) had sourced a company that was making them for Avants though (but I don't believe the Avant bar would work in the Sedan).
