keep forgetting how "short" and "quick" other tracks are compared to the one in my backyard
4.5 miles and 24 turns will do that to you. To give you an idea, ALMS P1 and P2 do the full course in about 2 min 25 seconds. Spec Miatas are at 3 min 30 seconds. IMSA GT3 Cup is just under 3 minutes.

I signed him off because he was safe, consistent, and pretty alert. He was passed w/o a pointby...
going into big bend, and he brake-checked. Not the best response, but it's why everyone needs to allow adequate room for passing and try to avoid that kind of situation.

Regardless, what he did was wrong and could have caused a serious mess
perhaps he wasn't ready?
And that mess would have involved me. That's why I was so distraught!
Then again, you're the instructor and I'm not

Somehow, I doubt that. After all, you've got instructor candidates with 5 events under their belts
I would hope there would be some requirement, like say, 100 track days or similar, not 10.
I find it amusing that instructor candidates with less seat time than me could be instructing.
I was extremely hesitant to solo but felt that Lorens was a fantastic instructor and he felt I was ready so I tried.
